17 July 2019– H.E. Eng. Wassfi Hassan El-Sreihin, Secretary General of the African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO) made a courtesy call on Ambassador Ramon S. Bagatsing, Jr. at the Philippine Embassy on 17 July 2019.
During the call, Secretary General El-Sreihin apprised Ambassador Bagatsing on the mandate and existing programs, development projects, and activities of AARDO while encouraging the Philippines to rejoin the organization. The AARDO is an autonomous inter-governmental organization in rural development of Africa and Asia. It aims to promote coordinated efforts, exchange of experiences, and cooperative action for furthering the objectives of development of the rural areas.
The Philippines attended the 1st Afro-Asian Conference held in New Delhi in 1961 and joined AARDO in 1968 but ceased membership in 2012.
