18 July 2018 – The Philippine delegation headed by Senior Official H.E. Maria Hellen B. de la Vega, Assistant Secretary of the Office of ASEAN Affairs together with Ambassador Ma. Teresita C. Daza, OPhilDAFA Attaché Raymundo R. Acorda and other Embassy Officials and Staff attended the 2nd ASEAN-India Workshop on Blue Economy which was held at Nilgiri Hall, The Oberoi, New Delhi on 18 July 2018.
Indian Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (East) Preeti Saran delivered the keynote address at the Inaugural Session where she noted that the oceans hold the key to the fortunes of the fast evolving global order. The Secretary further stated that India’s cooperation with ASEAN in the maritime domain will be a "key facilitator" for the growth and development of the Indo-Pacific region.
The Workshop on Blue Economy was divided into four (4) sessions aimed at facilitating an in-depth discussion on Blue Economy to identify the specific areas where ASEAN and India can cooperate. The four sessions include: Maritime Safety and Diplomacy, and Blue Economy (Session 1); Technology Aid of Blue Economy (Session II); Development of Blue Economy (Session III); and Blue Economy and Maritime Connectivity (Session IV).
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the Viet Nam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in partnership with the ASEAN-India Center (AIC) at Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) in Jakarta and the National Maritime Foundation (NMF) organized the 2nd ASEAN-India Workshop on Blue Economy.
