24 April 2018- Ambassador Ma. Teresita C. Daza was invited as Chief Guest in the Institute of Social Sciences’ 25Th Anniversary Celebration of 73rd Constitution Amendment and to commemorate the Women’s Political Empowerment Day celebration on 24 April 2018 in New Delhi.
The Ambassador delivered remarks on decentralization and devolution as well as the role of women in the Philippines.
The conference commemorates the 25th Anniversary of the 73rd Amendment of the Constitution of India. In 1993, the government of India passed a series of historic constitution reforms designed to democratize and empower local political bodies – the “panchayats”. Among the key provisions of the 73rd Amendment was that with direct elections to five year terms of all members at all levels, one third of all seats are to be reserved for women.
