21 March 2018- Ambassador Ma. Teresita C. Daza led the Philippine delegation comprising of Vice Consul Mr. Charles Lawrence L. Ching, CDA Geneva PM Mr. Arnel M. Sanchez and Commercial Attaché Mr. Jeremiah C. Reyes, to the Informal WTO Ministerial Gathering held at the Taj Diplomatic Enclave Hotel, New Delhi, on19-20 March 2018. Representatives from more than 53 countries came to New Delhi to tackle unresolved issues from the Doha and Buenos Aires Rounds as well as point out new issues faced by the current global trading system.
Ambassador Daza delivered the Philippine statement, highlighting the need to reform the global trading system to make it more inclusive and equitable for all its members by fousing discussions on the sectors of agriculture and MSMEs. Highlighting the plight of farmers in the less developed and developing countries like the Philippines, Ambassador Daza stated that the success in agriculture would depend on the willingness of members to make commitments for the substantial reduction of all trade-distorting supports. She also emphasized that MSMEs would need the appropriate policy support and technical assistance so that they can secure their share of the benefits of international trade.
