10- January 2018 – The Philippines participated in the First Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) Parliamentarian Conference organized by the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India on 09-10 January 2018 at Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra, New Delhi, India.
The conference aims to establish a network of leaders of Indian origins in various countries, and re-establish a connection with Indian diaspora abroad. The conference comes as India celebrates the 103rd Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s return to India from South Africa.
Hon. Amanda Christina “Cristal” L. Bagatsing, 5th District Representative of the Manila, represented the Philippines in the said event. She was invited Parliamentarian of the Philippines because of her Indian lineage and affiliation to the Indian hero Bhagat Singh.
