10 OCTOBER 2017 PALARONG PINOY 2017

10 October 2017- To bring back traditional Filipino games as a venue for bonding, competition, sportsmanship and camaraderie, the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi in cooperation with the Filipino community in New Delhi organized the first ever “Palarong Pinoy 2017” at the Embassy grounds on 07 October 2017. The activity is also part of the pre-Diwali celebration, the Hindu five-day festival of lights which is one of the most significant festivals in Indian culture. The festival which is decided upon by the Hindu lunar calendar also coincides with the Hindu New Year.

The event’s program commenced with the singing of the Philippine national anthem and ASEAN Philippine Chairmanship theme song, prayer, and brief remarks from Ambassador Ma. Teresita C. Daza. Adults and children bucked the heat and played parlor games (e.g. tug of war, sack race, Maria went to town, among others) during the Palarong Pinoy”. Lots of gifts were also distributed by the Embassy through raffle draws.

As part of the program, Filipino community members also organized a talent show wherein children and adults showed their talents in singing, dancing and declamation.

The successful activity was attended by more than 100 Filipino community members, Embassy officers and staff, local hires and their families. END
