5 June 2017- ASEAN Heads of Missions and representatives participated in the 4th Act East Business Show organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Department of Commerce and Industry and the North Eastern Council, Ministry of DoNer, and held in Shillong, Meghalaya from 1-4 June 2017.The Act East Business Show aims to raise understanding of the Northeast region of India and the numerous opportunities therein.
Ambassador Daza attended and spoke at the Inaugural Session and the NE India- ASEAN Trade and Connectivity Session on 01 June 2017, where she underscored the commonalities between the North-East and ASEAN and the opportunities and challenges to trade and connectivity between the two regions. She said the priority focus will be on people to people exchanges and cultural cooperation for the Philippines. She also provided updates on the Philippine Chairmanship of ASEAN citing the recent launch of the Philippine Indonesia Ro-Ro Shipping Network as a key connectivity project linking the archipelagic states with the rest of the region.
The Act East Business Show also featured an exhibit of 120 booths on agriculture produce, bamboo furniture, handicrafts and textiles, which was opened by the Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr. Mukul M. Sangma and visiting dignitaries.
