03 November 2016- Philippine Ambassador to India Ma. Teresita C. Daza together with her spouse Mr. David Jose Daza, attended the Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (IHGF) Delhi Fair Autumn 2016, held from 14 to 18 October 2016 in New Delhi, India. The event was organized by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH)-India and assisted and co-organized by a Filipino International lifestyle designer, Mr. PJ Aranador together with his Filipino and Indian team. Mr. Aranador has been associated with the EPCH and the Indian handicrafts industry for over 12 years.
IHGF is amongst Asia's largest gifts and handicrafts fair, held biannually (Spring & Autumn edition). It has over 2750 exhibitors, spread over 190,000 sq. It brings an entire range of home, lifestyle and fashion concepts, with traditional artistic finish in harmony with modern designs and contemporary colours. It is a business platform for importers, wholesalers, distributors, retailers, fashion designers, and potential franchises, to source an unparalleled variety of handicrafts, gifts and lifestyle products, from a cross section of handmade manufacturers from India. The EPCH was viewed by over 30,000 visitors from different countries.
A Knowledge Seminar was also organized during the event where Filipino fiber and handloom expert, Ms. Anna India A. dela Cruz, presented pineapple/banana Philippine fibers. Ms. dela Cruz described the weaving traditions in the Philippines, its history, and the Philippine traditional fiber extraction process.
Fibers from India and the Philippines including the pineapple and abaca fiber from Aklan, Philippines were displayed at the exhibit.
