New Delhi, 02 December 2015 – Ambassador Ma. Teresita C. Daza led a delegation to Chennai comprising of trade, consular and cultural officials from the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi. It is the Ambassador’s first visit to the industrial city since her presentation of credentials as Ambassador to India.
The delegation met with some 60 members of the Southern India Commerce and Industry (SICCI), Chennai’s pioneering chamber of commerce at the Le Meridien Hotel. Ambassador Daza briefed the Chamber on the bilateral relations between India and the Philippines, raised key advocacies to be pursued by the Embassy to strengthen bilateral relations and presented the growing opportunities for foreign businesses in the country resulting from improved business environment.
The delegation likewise visited the industrial areas of Chennai and met with officers of RRB Energy Limited, a wind turbine production company, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) which has operations in the Philippines for BPO and accounting services.
To explore possible cultural and educational exchanges, the delegation met with officials of Kalakshetra Foundation, a non-government organization that nurtures and provides in-house training to talented individuals in the performing arts, music, and crafts; the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), an engineering institute with existing MOU’s with Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan and China; and M.A. Chidambaram Nursing College & Voluntary Health Service (VHS), a nursing school established by the family of the Philippine Honorary Consul-General Ashwin C. Muthiah for women from poor families.
The delegation visited the Consulate during which Ambassador Daza administered the oath of Mr. Narendran as Honorary Consul of the Philippines. The consular team also rendered passport services, registered the attendees’ names and contact details, and answered queries on consular matters and other concerns. Ambassador Daza also addressed the Filipino community where she briefed the FilCom on the thrusts of the Philippine government, developments at home, as well as the mission/thrusts of the Embassy in India.
