New Delhi, 12 November 2015 – Ambassador Ma. Teresita C. Daza led a delegation to Kolkata comprising of consular, economic and trade officials from the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi. It is the Ambassador’s first visit to the City since her presentation of credentials as Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the Republic of India.
The Ambassador’s visit included meetings with Honorary Consul-General Deepak Kumar Khemka, the West Bengal Governor Kesari Nath Tripathi, the Vice Chancellor Ms. Anuradha Lohia of Presidency University, executives of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI), MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Filipino Community. The Ambassador also conducted inspection of and consultations with officers of the Philippine Honorary Consulate General.
Ambassador Daza expressed gratitude for the support given to the Philippines’ presence in the city through the Honorary Consul General with West Bengal Governor Kesari Nath Tripathi. He was briefed on Philippines-India relations, including possible areas of cooperation where both countries can mutually benefit, particularly in the areas of tourism, education, people-to-people exchanges.
Ambassador Daza addressed the MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kolkata’s oldest and largest Chamber with 800 members and the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI) with approximately 20 members of the organization in attendance on cultural and linguistic commonalities between the two countries as well as the various opportunities for India and the Philippines to work together in areas of trade and investments including areas in transportation and tourism infrastructure, housing, and other projects under the Public-Private Partnership scheme.
Ambassador Daza in her meeting with Vice Chancellor of Presidency University, the oldest University in India, discussed establishment of cultural and academic exchanges between the institution and their Philippine counterparts including the university’s openness to receiving visitors from the Philippines such as those who will deliver public lectures, cultural performances, or engage in collaborative research.
The Embassy’s thrusts in India, and how the Filipino community can contribute in raising the profile of the Philippines in the country were discussed during the Ambassador’s meet and greet with the Filipino community. The FilCom were encouraged to register themselves with the Embassy for better monitoring of their conditions, particularly in times of distress and calamities.
The Consular representatives from the Embassy also provided mobile e-passport services to the Filipino Community.
