25 July 2015 – The Philippine Embassy in New Delhi organized the first meet-and-greet between Ambassador Ma. Teresita C. Daza and the members of the Filipino community on Saturday, 25 July 2015.
Ambassador Daza encouraged the Filipino community to support and work with the Embassy in its projects. In her welcome remarks, Ambassador Daza shared that everyone has the capacity to make a difference and encouraged all to help the Embassy raise the profile of the Philippines and Filipinos in India.
Professor Jeofe B. Santarita, Dean of the Asian Center in the University of the Philippines in Diliman gave a quick overview on the commonalities between Philippine and Indian cultures. Professor Santarita reminded the audience to be proud of the Filipino heritage and quoted a line from foremost Philippine diplomat Carlos P. Romulo, “I am a Filipino. In my blood runs the immortal seed of heroes.”
A simple salu-salo followed where the Filipino community introduced themselves and raised concerns and areas of future cooperation for the Embassy’s consideration. During the merienda, there was a screening of documentaries showing the rights and positive realities of persons with disabilities in the Philippines and India in observance of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.
